DOWRY: A Boon or Curse?

       Two year ago when Shweta-eight month pregnant, was thrashed by her-in-laws which resulted in abortion. Again on March 08th, 2009 her-in-laws had allegedly set her on fire (this time she was six month pregnant) and died.



            This happened only for not bringing dowry. Very often we come across such heinous cases around us. We say that we have entered modern and developed era but what about these brutal activities which are far worse than those done in ancient times in the absence of proper understanding among human beings. Like, if one or more of our teeth go bad, we still treat them as our own and get them properly treated. In the same way, if some of our girls don’t belong to well-to-do family, we must treat them as our own and go easy them, instead of making their situation worse by demanding dowry. If we are doing and supporting these cruel activities then what is the difference between an animal and us? Think! Though we have positive ways to fight against this social evil yet the implementation is not up to the mark, for which we have to think and take necessary action.
